BANZAI PIPELINE from the iPhone 4s

Today I camped out at the Billabong Pipeline Masters. I'm not gonna lie, I've never been more excited to be at a surf competition before in my life. Usually I'm not the biggest fan of huge crowds at the beach but today was quite the experience. John John Florence had one of the most incredible heats I've ever seen, pulling off a perfect 10 in the process. The first picture is a shot I got using my iPhone 4s as he was emerging from a deep barrel. Turned out pretty neat I think.

The second picture is of Seth, Evan and myself. We were all roommates when I first got out to Hawaii in 2005. Seth now has two kids (Sol & Coco) and Evan was in town for a visit. It was quite enjoyable to just sit in the shade by the stairs next to the Volcom House and watch all the action.

The third picture is a panorama taken using Photosynth as I was kicking it with Kellinann and her crew. It was a perfect day (weather and a nice NW swell).

All these were taken with the iPhone 4s. Makes a non-photographer goon like myself look like I know what I'm doing. Thanks technology.

Thanksgivingness

Hope you had an excellent Thanksgiving. I took it pretty easy. Called my fam, went for a little surf, had dinner with the Hannemann Family, played some barefoot soccer, met up with the roommates and had another dinner (big thanks to Ted and Lindsay for heading things up and Trent for cooking the 4 turkeys in the imu). Thankful for the best of friends and raddest family.

Pic 1: Dr. Ian Patton and yours truly
Pic 2: Enjoying one another's company
Pic 3: House pic taken before Roger (He's the one with the teal shirt) left for the mainland. There is a lot going on in this pic, I know. It got weird when we all put on button up shirts and moved part of the couch outside the house but things needed to be documented.
Pic 4: The feast brought to you by Ted, Trent, & Lindz

Maple Leaves & Snow Mounds

I was gonna wait till it got a little bit more snowy and winterish on the mainland to post this video but I saw that my buddy Matt had posted it to my buddy Ian's wall so I figured, ah why not? My favorite shots in this flick are from the trees that let the silhouettes frame the surer just right. So good.

Barn Wood

Aloha Sunday is a little surf shop in San Diego. I've never been there but next time in SD you better believe I'll be stopping by. I like how they took some old barn wood and reused it in their store. I'm actually helping my dear mother out with a project using some old wood from my great grandfathers barn that is just around the corner at the old homestead. My grandfather actually finished part of his basement back in the 60's with barnwood and it still exists to this very day. I guess you can say reusing barn wood runs in the family... or something like that.

Grant, if you're reading this, I hope you pay attention and notice the guys hitting up the Oregon coast for a surf session. You should make that a reality this summer while you're home. Looks pretty cold though.

Intentio Trailer

Came across this via adventure journal. It looks like it's going to be a good production. The cinematography is amazing just in the short minute and a half teaser trailer. I wouldn't consider myself a surfer but I do enjoy getting out in the water and catching waves. I have nothing but respect for guys who have honed in on their skill of surfing. There is nothing like the feeling of catching a wave and riding it. Pure energy.

Ireland & The Cliffs of Moher
Ireland & The Cliffs of Moher
Cliffs of Moher

This isn't a new video. Many of you have probably already seen this, but I love it. I had a chance to visit the Cliffs of Moher a few years back and let me tell you, they are as majestic. Kevin Young and myself got ourselves out of Dublin and out in the countryside of Ireland and came across some incredible landmarks. These Cliffs are incredible. Not to mention featured in Princess Bride as the Cliffs of Insanity. Anyways... Check it.

Mexico- From Where You'd Rather Be

I don't drink alcohol but I sure like this video. I find some of the best videos/commercials/advertising are all done by companies trying to hawk their alcoholic beverages. While they don't get me to buy into their product, I sure do respect their work from time to time. This video has a great feel to it. I haven't been to Mexico in years... but this video makes me want to start planning my next trip. It was filmed by Taylor Steele, the guy produces incredible films. Enjoy. My dear friend Elle first introduced this video to me. She is now in winter-locked and freezing cold Siberia, quite a contrast from sunny south of the border Mexico.

I really really like Cream Soda... so I just think of Cream Soda every time I see a bottle or a carton in the video. It makes it the video even that much more better. (mo betta)
