Los Angeles Nightfall

I enjoyed growing up close to Los Angeles. Just a short 45 minute drive and I was in the heart of the second biggest city in the US. Once again I'm a sucker for time lapse so naturally this combination would get me. The song selection is spot on as well.

Yosemite Round 2

Here are some more pictures from the trip to Yosemite. The first two are from a random town off Hwy 6 in Nevada called Tonopah. Pretty weird little place but they had some old shanty buildings I got to explore around while we filled up with gas so it was cool. Some of the other pictures are of me holding Brian and Anne's latest creation... Isaac, hanging with part of the gang in the Mariposa Grove, some ghost towns, open roads, clouds for days, our campsite, wind turbines, and some of my gear... mostly just New Balance shoes and my sleeping gear.

Yosemite

I hadn't been to Yosemite since I was a kid so this little weekend trip was a bit overdue. I couldn't pass up a weekend hanging out in a campsite in the valley with several good friends I grew up with back in Newbury Park. I could talk your ear off about this place and how enjoyable it was. A few things I'll touch on briefly: We ate like kings (honestly ate more than I do at home thanks to Rob and Brian getting fanatical at Costco and stalking up two full size coolers), we didn't hike half dome but it will be done next time in the not too distant future, we found a great swimming hole off the beaten path on the Merced River and it didn't disappoint, the company was great and so was the weather. What more could a guy ask for?

*I would break down each picture but I won't get into it here. Shoot me a message or an email if you have a question. All pics were taken with my trusty iphone. I've been bad at bringing my G9 around with me since my phone is so convenient and produces pretty decent quality pictures.

Yosemite Since I'll be heading to Yosemite in a few weeks I figured I would post this video. This place is stunning. I haven't been in several years so this trip will be memorable. If you haven't been hopefully this short video will help sway you to go sooner than later. The music is a little much in my opinion but its a great little flick. This guy knows how to capture Yosemite in a different way than most people do. Impressive.

John Muir Trail

One day I will hike all two hundred and some odd miles of the John Muir trail. It would be fun to document it in a way like these folks did. Neat video indeed. Here is what wikipedia has to say about the trail.

THE BIKE ABOUT DOT COM
Staying in Los Angeles was great for a number of reasons; reconnecting with old friends, going to my High School reunion, The Getty Museum, Jimmy Kimmel Live, etc. etc. But one really neat thing about the timing of the trip was the ability for me to catch up with some friends who happened to be "passing through the area".

My friend Tayt decided he wanted to ride his bike from Canada to Mexico, so he did just that. He is doing it to raise awareness for Depression. Click HERE to get the whole scoop and check out his blog (which is nicely done and neat to read). His sister Jasmine happened to join up with him in San Francisco and finish the trip with him as well so it quickly turned into a bit of a party as we met at the Santa Monica Pier. Our families have been connected for several years. I went to school with their older brother Jon, out in Hawaii. My sister Michelle was best buds with Tayt in High School (still are), and I've perused around Waterton National Park on hikes and other adventures with Max and Karli over the years. The family is dynamic, so it makes sense some of them would decide to ride 80 to 100 miles a day on bike, trekking across the western united states.

Tayt and Jasmine are finishing up their trip today as they cross the border into Mexico. They will have a little bit of well deserved R&R in San Diego before meeting up with their siblings just outside of Las Vegas at Red Rocks to do some climbing. Seriously click on the link below to read more about Tayt's adventures.

Southern California

I grew up my whole life in Southern California (age 5 to 25). Not too far from Los Angeles and all it had to offer, not too far from the beach and waves, not too far from the desert and mountains and its fresh air, not too bad of a place to be raised. I haven't spent much time in California over the past few years. Going to school in Hawaii and having your family relocate to Canada makes it more difficult to keep in touch with you roots; it sill doesn't change how dynamic a place is or what it's worth to you. I really enjoy this little video that showcases just a bit of what makes Southern California such a sought after place with so much to offer.

I know, I know... There is a lot of traffic and the San Fernando Valley isn't that cool but California is a great place. Cheers to a visit there in about a month or so.

Made a trip out to California to be a part of Mike & Bethany Schoneman's wedding. Had an incredible time down in San Diego partaking of the festivities. Mike and I were roommates out in Hawaii and roadtrip buddies this past summer. I'm so pumped for him and his new wife. Great people. I had the pleasure of driving down to San Diego with Pehrson Hawkley and his incredible wife Kate. Not to mention their new addition to the family: little baby Beck. Him and I bonded over the weekend. It was great. Getting back out to California was so overdue. It had been too long. The highlights were reconnecting with friends after an extended period of time apart. Such a good weekend.
